Shipmate News 29 July 2015

New players, new brands, new models

This edition of Shipmate News is out a few days early due to the upcoming Sydney International Boat Show which starts tomorrow (Thursday 30 July). We’ve got so much information about the show in this edition it would have been a shame not to tell you about it beforehand.

The hype and enthusiasm that’s been generated about Sydney this year, not just from the industry, but from the general boating community, has been quite surprising. Of course there’s always a lot of hype and enthusiasm generated about major boats shows as they draw nearer but, in this case there seems to be a real buzz around the traps leading up to the show. Not only that, but we’re seeing a lot of new players, new brands and new models coming on to the market, which to me equates to a renewed positivity about the industry (not sure that ‘positivity’ is a real word, but I’m sure you get my drift).

I’m certainly looking forward to having a look around the show, checking out what’s new, both on and off the water and finding out what’s trending in the boating world, I look forward to seeing you there and if you see me walking around the show, please stop and say hi.

But this edition is not all about Sydney, we’ve got some other interesting stuff, including details about Australian Supermaxi Wild Oats XI completing the Transpac, 2225nm LA to Honolulu race in the fastest time. And an article about iconic vehicle maker Aston Martin who has partnered with Quintessence Yachts to produce a unique series of stunning new sports yachts.

Closer to home for me, the world’s most liveable city, yes Melbourne; is soon to celebrate its 180th birthday with the Melbourne Regatta and Blessing of the Fleet to be held on 29 and 30 August. This will involve Melbourne’s commercial fleet and recreational boats, both power and sail and there’ll be plenty to see and do, both on and off the water. More details further in this edition.

And finally, just a heads up that we’ve started on the 11th (2016) print edition of Shipmate Marine Directory – The recreational boaters essential guide. So if you’re business is currently listed in Shipmate, please visit the website at www.shipmate.com.au and check your listing as these listings will be downloaded for the print edition. And of course if you're a marine business and you're not listed then go to the website and submit your listing, after all, listings in Shipmate are free.

If your interested in receiving information about advertising, please give me a call on 0418 587 799 or email us at info@shipmate.com.au and we’ll send you out a media pack outlining the opportunities in Shipmate.

In the meantime, sit back, browse through and enjoy the read.

Cheers, see you out on the water
