The buyers are back

As we kick off the 2015-16 financial year, the general buzz around the marine industry is all positive, the builders are building, the sellers are selling and the buyers are buying.

As we’ve seen from recent boat shows, visitor numbers are up and buyers are out in force. In this edition we’ve got a report from the recent Melbourne Boat Show where they had over 29,000 visitors and 130 exhibitors filled the Melbourne Convention Centre to capacity. John Stav from JV Marine World told me that in all the years he’s been doing boat shows, this was one of the best and that was typical of most of the comments from exhibitors.

And from the Gold Coast International Marine Expo another report tells us that the economic impact of the Expo is still being measured a month after the event, ongoing activity so far has translated to confirmed sales of over $50m and still counting.

Coming up at the end of this month, the Sydney International Boat Show, and, if the reports we’re getting in are any indication, it’s bound to be a similar story. Among the reports; new Australian distributor for Dufour, Performance Cruising Yachts, is bringing in an armada of new models for the show from Dufour and Elan, as well as the company's established Hunter cruisers. Horizon have announced that the Horizon E84 will be making her Australian debut alongside the Horizon V72 and Horizon PC52 Catamaran, Beneteau will have a fleet of six luxury Beneteau yachts on display and the new Riviera 52 Enclosed Flybridge will make its Sydney Premiere as part of Riviera's planned stunning red-carpet, on-water showcase during the Show.

A couple of other interesting articles in this edition including an article aimed at Riva enthusiasts or anyone interested in the finer things in life; Ferruccio Lamborghini's legendary unique Riva Aquarama Lamborghini sports boat, built nearly 50 years ago and recently fully restored, is up for sale. I’ve put in my bid but I’m not holding out much hope, I figure they’re looking for a bit more than I could afford. And Queenscliff Harbour (Vic) are planning to transform the old dilapidated Fishermans Wharf at Queenscliff into a modern marine precinct and home to Victoria’s first live stingray feeding centre.

As usual, there’s plenty more in this edition and something for everyone, but just a reminder that we regularly post Shipmate News to our website at and also to our Facebook page at and you can also now follow us on Twitter at
