Social Media, coming to you in bite size chunks

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Google+. Social Media, where will it end? I must admit it took me ages to get on board. Years ago when the kids were all over Facebook, I just couldn’t see an application for me personally, or for business for that matter. These days of course I get it!

It’s a bit like everything else in these times, we want our information and we want it now! And we don’t want to have to search for it; we want it to come to us. And we want it in nice bite size chunks so it’s easily absorbed, otherwise, within minutes our attention is distracted and we’re on to something else.

Which all leads me to my point, Shipmate has been up on Facebook for a while now and it’s really interesting to see how we get instant responses, firstly in terms of people either commenting on an article we’ve put up, or ‘liking’ us and, with 3600 ‘Likes’ in a very short amount of time we figure we must be doing something right. Check us out (and of course ‘Like’ us too) at

And then Twitter; have to admit, didn’t quite get that either all that long ago, but that too has its advantages, not the least being that you can ‘follow’ people from all over the world. In our case, keeping up with what’s happening in the marine industry around the globe, so as we in turn can keep you informed. If you’re into Twitter then follow us

So now while you can still visit us at to stay up to date with Shipmate News, if you ‘friend’ us on Facebook or ‘follow’ us on twitter, we’ll bring the news directly to you; In bite size chunks of course, with a link to get to the detail if you need to. But don’t forget, if you’re searching for marine trades, services, yacht clubs, marinas, marine organisations, then of course our online directory on the website is still the place to go.

And now to this edition of Shipmate News, another bumper edition. The spotlight of course is firmly on the Gold Coast with literally just days to go to the ASMEX conference, the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, The Gold Coast International Marine Expo, The Riviera Festival of Boating and the Boutique Boat Company’s official launch and Boat Display (at the Sovereign Islands), all happening next week.

Plenty of info on all of the above and still more from right around the country in this edition, so, sit back, browse through and enjoy the read. I’m off to pack my bags, heading off to… You guessed it, the Gold coast.

Cheers, see you out on the water
