Shipmate News 15 December 2014

2015 is shaping up as a big year

This is the last Shipmate News for 2014 and we don’t normally publish in January, which at times I think is a bit unfortunate as there’s usually so much going on around the country. However, it’s the only chance we get all year to have a break.

But, while we are away, floating around, soaking up some sun and generally enjoying a break from constant emails and phone calls, it won’t be all ‘beer and skittles’ as we’ll still be posting news on the website so, make sure you check in to from time to time to catch up on what’s going on.

We’ll be back with the next edition on 01 February 2015 and I have to say I’m already looking forward to next year which is shaping up to be very interesting, especially so next May.

In May 2015, Marine 15 is on again and those that experienced Marine 13 will know what a great forum that was for the Marine Industry in general, so expectations are high for the upcoming event. Also, with the recent announcement by the Gold Coast International Marine Expo to align their dates next year to coincide with the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) and the Riviera Festival of Boating (see details in this edition) it looks like the Gold Coast will definitely be the place to be in May 2015.

But, as always, you can’t please all of the people all of the time and not everyone’s happy with the change of dates. According to SCIBS General Manager Johan Hassar, “What is disappointing is that the Gold Coast International Marine Expo’s decision will force both exhibitors and visitors to choose which event they will go to for reasons of both time and money.

Gold Coast International Marine Expo Chairman Patrick Gay said, “The consolidated festival concept offers a multitude of positives, not least of which is the fact the state’s major marine events will complement each other”.

“They will add value to each other and there are precedents for a number of successful marine industry shows being hosted in the same city on simultaneous dates, one being the biggest boat show in the world: Miami,” he said. More details further in this edition.

The 2015 (print) edition of Shipmate Marine Directory (Vic only) is out now and we’ve almost completed the distribution, so you can pick up your free copy at yacht clubs, marinas, marine organisations and selected marine businesses.

But, if you can’t get to any of those, don’t despair, a copy of Shipmate will be attached to the cover of the December edition of every Tradeaboat Magazine sold in Victoria (on sale 18 Dec). So, purchase Tradeaboat in December and you’ll not only get the complete book of boats, you’ll also have a copy of Shipmate, the recreational boaters essential guide as well.

And finally, we wish you and all your families, a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and wish you safe boating always.

Cheers, see you out on the water
