Fish and ships

In Victoria the snapper season is in full swing and on the weekend my (motor) yacht club held their annual snapper fishing tournament.

Plenty of good size snapper caught between 4 and 6kg, and all at the top end of Port Phillip Bay. Didn’t get out there myself though, too busy helping out behind the scenes and besides, if there’s anything that I’m worse at than golf, it’s probably fishing.

But obviously I’m not the only one, at one point over the weekend I overheard a conversation where someone was complaining about not catching any fish and the response was; “You can’t expect to always catch fish, otherwise it wouldn’t be called fishing, it would be called catching”… Priceless!

Now just a quick update on where we’re at with Shipmate Marine Directory and we’ve tweaked the website yet again. With the latest update it means that the site now morphs itself when viewed on mobile devices like tablets and smartphones. The result is that the website now shows up better on smartphones and tablets than our dedicated App, which makes our App redundant.

If you’ve been using the Shipmate App, we now suggest you delete the App and just save our website to your smartphone home screen; works better, faster and is much clearer. And of course, you can also filter individual categories by state or region.

And in Victoria, the 2015 (free) print edition of Shipmate Marine Directory is complete and we expect that we’ll start distribution at the end of this month so, look out for that at your local yacht club, marina, marine organisations and selected marine businesses.

And finally to this edition of Shipmate News and a round up of what’s making news in the marine world around the country. From new model releases including small ships, new products and information for boaters; something for everyone, so sit back, find your interest and enjoy the read.

Cheers, see you out on the water
