Shipmate News 04 August 2014

It just keeps on keeping on

I spent a couple of days last week visiting the Sydney International Boat Show, which incidentally, finishes today (Monday 04 August).

In my view the organisers, the BIA of NSW, should be congratulated, especially given the difficulties associated with the show split across two locations while the Convention Centre at Darling Harbour is redeveloped over the next two years. I can tell you that the drawbacks envisioned by some did not come to fruition, patrons were ferried smoothly and efficiently between the in-water component at Cockle Bay and the indoor pavilion at Glebe Island and speaking to exhibitors and patrons alike, the responses have all been positive.

With over 210 exhibitors indoors and some 150 boats in the water there was plenty for patrons to see and do. And exhibitors were reporting results too with Riviera and Chaparral, just a couple that reported sales on both day one and two.

Final numbers aren’t in as yet but as of Sunday morning the show was on track to recording numbers of patrons similar to last year. With two more years of the show to go in this format it certainly looks like Sydney can look forward to retaining the mantle of being one of the best shows in Australia. We’ll bring you more info as it comes to hand.

And now to other marine news from around the country and as always, in this edition of Shipmate News something for everyone as we cover the gamut of what’s happening in the marine world.

But just before we get into that, just wanted to remind you that Shipmate Marine Directory – The Recreational Boaters Essential Guide provides free listings for anyone who provides a product, trade or service direct to boaters, so if you’re a marine business, anywhere in Australia, visit the website and submit your free listing. If you’re a boater and you’re looking for anything related to boating; details of a yacht club or marina, products or repairs, or even up to date weather and tide information, make sure you visit www.shipmate.com.au

The Shipmate website continues to grow in popularity amongst boaters around Australia and in Victoria we also publish an annual 152 page, pocket size, print version. We’ve commenced production of the 2015 edition with a circulation of 14,000 copies. If you’re interested in communicating your message direct to boaters, visit www.shipmate.com.au/advertise/ and download a Media Kit with all the details.

That’s it from me again till next time.
