B-Grade Celebrities, A-Grade Deals

With the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show over, it’s now time for exhibitors to assess the results and the general consensus is that while things are still a long way from what they used to be, there are still plenty of sales being made and the outlook is positive. Reports from the show indicate that attendance was up and there were quite a few visitors that brought along their cheque books.

Plenty of new and exciting releases too from all the usual suspects, Riviera, Maritimo, Integrity, Clipper, Grand Banks and Raymarine were just a few that released new products or made major announcements.

And Riviera’s third Festival of Boating, run at Coomera at the same time as SCIBS, seems to go from strength to strength and boy, those guys sure know how to throw a party. We’ve got a full wrap in this edition.

Boat shows are an important part of the industry for everyone, manufacturers, retailers, and especially for us boaters. That’s where we get an opportunity to kick a few tyres, compare products, see what’s new and talk to the experts and, on that note, the next boat show on the calendar is Melbourne to be held 12 – 16 June.

I’ve just had a look at some of the advertising for the Melbourne Boat Show; it features Brynne Edelstan and Warrick Capper. It’s funny and very clever but, beneath the humour is a strong and succinct message. The tag line is The Melbourne Boat Show – B-Grade Celebrities, A Grade Deals. If you like a chuckle, check out the ads on the home page of the Shipmate website at www.shipmate.com.au

And just to cap off the news from boat shows; applications have now opened for exhibitors to secure their space at the 2014 Gold Coast International Marine Expo – Australia’s only “Working Boat Show” – from October 17-19, see details below.

In other news, the Melbourne Docklands Fireworks are back this winter, online ticket sales for the Melbourne 4x4 Fishing and Boating Expo are now open and we’ve got all the details of the 2014 Club Marine Australian Marine Export and Superyacht Industry Awards. And, while we’re on the subject of awards, finalists in the Yachting Victoria Awards have also been announced and you’ll find all those details here too.

If that’s still not enough, we’ve got news of the new Coast Guard Base that’s just been officially opened at St Kilda, information on the Queensland Youth Sailing Championships and a new safety initiative by Stormy Lifejackets that will see a detailed computer database recording the purchase and service history of every PFD the company has supplied to commercial and recreational operators over the past 10 years.

But that’s still not all in this, a bumper edition of Shipmate News so, until next time, sit back and enjoy the read.

Cheers, see you out on the water
