Shipmate News 31 July 2013

Time flies when you’re having fun

Here at Shipmate we are fast approaching our tenth birthday. The first Shipmate Marine Directory, (2005 print edition), was launched in 2004 and our tenth (2014) edition is currently in production.

Looking back over the last ten years we’ve stayed true to our ideals, to publish a totally free, unbiased and fully inclusive, directory of marine trades and services for boaters and, we’re quite proud of the fact that Shipmate has become a valuable, keenly anticipated, resource for the recreational boating community.

While the print edition of Shipmate is purely Victorian, the on-line and mobile editions at and the free smartphone Apps are spreading around Australia, especially since we added the facility of being able to filter listings by state within each category.

All of the listings in Shipmate are free with no prerequisite to be a member, or a part of any association or organisation, the only criteria is that you supply a service or a product direct to boaters. Having said that, we would encourage all who are part of the industry to consider joining the Boating Industry Association in your state so that our industry has a bigger voice when it comes to dealing with regulators and legislators.

As we said earlier, we are currently in production of the 2014 print edition of Shipmate and 14,000 copies will be distributed free to boaters via yacht clubs, marinas, marine organisations and selected marine businesses. If you supply a product or service to boaters and your market is in Victoria, then there is no better way to reach a highly targeted group than by advertising in Shipmate. Give me a call on 0418 587 799 or email me at and I’ll send you all the details.

This edition of Shipmate is out a day early, in time for the Sydney International Boat Show which opens tomorrow. This is the 46th Sydney International Boat Show which this year celebrates the 25th time it has been in the Darling Harbour Precinct. I’m looking forward to being there.

Cheers, see you out on the water
