Shipmate News 15 April 2013
It’s all about boats and boating
A bit of everything again in this edition of Shipmate News and, with the boat show season in full swing, information is pouring in. The 25th annual Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS), which runs from 23-26 May, will showcase a raft of international boating brands and marine products, as well as an exciting line up of entertainment.
At the same time, just a short ferry ride up the Coomera River from Sanctuary Cove, Riviera will be staging their 2nd Annual Festival of Boating with a full calendar of events including their under cover boat show featuring the world release of five new or updated models.
Closer to home, the Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIA) has expanded its exhibitor space for the 53rd Annual BIA Melbourne Boat Show which runs 14-17 June. BIA General Manager Steven Gill confirmed an extra 3,000 square metres of space has been secured in the main hall and said it was mostly pre-sold to keen exhibitors. I’m told if you’re quick there may be the possibility of snapping up some of that space.
Marine corrosion is always a hot topic for boaters and Marine Protection Systems, together with Offshore Marine Electronics, will be presenting a Marine Corrosion Seminar to be held at Sandringham Yacht Club (SYC) on 24 April 2013. The seminar, designed to educate boaters on how to reduce the corrosion effects on vessels, is open to the general public, as well as SYC members, guests and the marine trade.
That’s just a small taste of what’s in this edition, there’s lots more though, including details of Mercury’s success at the world’s fastest ski race, the Mildura 100, an announcement by Club Marine that they’ve introduced a new boat warranty insurance scheme and news from the upcoming Marine 13 conference in Sydney that you can now purchase day passes to the conference. That’s still not all of course, but we’ll let you sit back and read through all those articles that you find interesting.
In the meantime here at Shipmate we’ve been like a duck on the water, doesn’t appear to be much happening up top but below the water it’s all going on. Behind the scenes we’ve been working hard to make Shipmate better, more informative and even more useful for boaters. We’re tweaking our website (again) to provide more information and working on a couple of projects that we can hopefully announce soon.
In the interim make sure you visit our website at www.shipmate.com.au where all the information is free and, if you haven’t already done so, make sure you download our free Smartphone Apps available from the iPhone App Store or Google Play.
Cheers, see you out on the water
