Stunning new models, great value and dealers dealing

I was recently told (again), that I’ve got the best job in the world, I don’t know how many times I’ve been told that, but you know? While it may not be the best job in the world, I have to admit I do really love what I do. The old saying that 'find a job that you enjoy and you'll never have to work another day in your life' is so true. Working in the marine industry, I get to travel, check out some really nice boats, spend time out on the water and, best of all, get to meet some really nice people, many that have become good friends.

But of course there is a serious side, because while boating is a great recreational pastime with 3 million Australians participating each year, it's also a business worth around $8 billion annualy to the Australian economy. The industry employs nearly 30,000 Australians and lately its been struggling with issues including the high $A, the issue of grey imports, increased government taxes and low consumer confidence.

But there are signs of light at the end of the tunnel. Reports from the major boat shows like Sanctuary Cove, Melbourne, and most recently Sydney, indicate that consumers are moving again making decisions and buying boats. And helping that is the plethora of new boats starting to appear on the market from both here and overseas, some stunning, innovative new models representing great value.

If you’ve been sitting back waiting for a great deal on a new boat I suggest that time is right about now. The dealers are out there and, from what I’m hearing, they’re doing deals. Check it out for yourself.

Now briefly to the London Olympics that have concluded with our athletes just arriving back in Australia. We would like to extend our congratulations to all on the Olympic Team and especially our Olympic Sailors who produced some stunning results. Well done all.

And finally to this edition of Shipmate News and as usual, a good mix from around Australia and just about something for everyone. A reminder too that we are in the process of preparing the 2013 edition of Shipmate Marine Directory – The Victorian boaters essential guide, an annual, 136 page, full colour, pocket guide for boaters. Shipmate includes a complete A-Z of marine businesses, yacht clubs, marinas, marine organisations, safety information and much more.

Advertising is selling out fast, and why wouldn’t it? A full page from only $950 and a half page at $590 for an ad that lasts a full 12 months and is looked at time and time again. Has to be the best bang for your advertising buck anywhere!

Check out a pdf flipping book version of the current edition here; www.shipmate.com.au/shipmatecd/shipmate.html then give us a call on Ph. 03 9399 9194 or email at info@shipmate.com.au and we’ll send you all the details. But please be quick there is only a limited amount of advertising available.

Cheers, see you out on the water
