Shipmate News 15 July 2012

It’s been a big couple of weeks

I’ve been away for the last week, cruising down from the Gold Coast to Sydney. Not exactly roughing it though, I was on board a brand new Riviera (20m) 5800 Sport Yacht on a shake down cruise with the owner.

But this was no ordinary garden variety Riviera 5800SY, this was the first one fitted with triple Zeus pod drives powered by 3 x Cummins 600hp engines.

And we didn’t just blast down the coast either; this was akin to a P & O cruise, stopping off at Yamba, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie and Port Stephens along the way. We even detoured a couple of times, once up into the Tweed River at Coolangatta and another time up the Hunter into Newcastle… Oh life is so tough!

You can read the full account of our trip and how the boat performed in an upcoming issue of Club Marine Magazine.

And now the other big news. We are very proud to announce that at the recent Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIAV) / IC Frith Victorian Marine Awards, held annually to coincide with the Melbourne Boat Show, Shipmate Directories was awarded the Victorian Marine Service Industry Award.

While we never set out with the aim of winning awards, it’s really exciting for us to be recognized and acknowledged by the industry. Our sincere thanks and appreciation to all of our supporters, advertisers and sponsors. Without your support Shipmate would not exist. More details in Shipmate News below.

And while we are on that note, we’ve commenced preparation of the 2013 edition of the annual (hard copy) Shipmate Marine Directory, the Boaters essential guide. If you have a current listing, please check that all your details are correct on the website at www.shipmate.com.au as we download those details annually to print the hard copy edition.

Remember, all line listings are free to anyone who provides a trade or service direct to boaters so if your business is not listed then contact us ASAP at info@shipmate.com.au or phone 03 9399 9194.

10,000 copies of Shipmate will be distributed via yacht clubs, marinas, marine organizations and selected marine businesses. Last edition, a further 4,000 copies were distributed with Australia’s best selling boating magazine, Trade-a-Boat. A copy was attached to every Trade-a-Boat magazine sold in Victoria in February.

We are pleased to announce that we are partnering with Trade-a-Boat again for this edition with a copy of Shipmate Marine Directory to be attached to every Trade-a-Boat sold in Victoria next February. That makes a total distribution of 14,000 copies of Shipmate Marine Directory in Victoria.

If you supply a trade or service to boaters in Victoria, can you afford not to be included?

Advertising is now open with prices starting at $950 plus GST for a full page, $590 plus GST for a half page and $180 for an in-line logo ad. Times are tough and businesses need to make sure their advertising dollar is working, not just in the short term, but also all year long. You won’t find better bang for your buck anywhere!

That’s about it from me, sit back and enjoy the read.

Cheers, see you out on the water
