Chill out, buy a boat

There is just something about boating and the water that brings out the social nature of people. Get people out on the water and watch them chill, generally they kick back, relax and even instinctively wave to passers by, on shore or on other boats. Being out on the water has that effect on people.

That was brought home to me (again) over the past couple of weeks as I took an extended break over Easter and, over the nearly two weeks that I was away, spent time on board various boats including a 5 metre ‘tinnie’ a couple of trawler style boats and a 51’ luxury cruiser. The thing I noticed was that it doesn't matter what size boat, big or small, people of all ages relax and come together, family and friends, both old and new, relaxing, socialising and enjoying life on the water. Hard to think of anything better!

And now to Shipmate News. In this edition we've got a wrap up of the Wooden Boat Festival of Geelong, details on a new boating app for NSW boaters, or anyone travelling along the NSW coastline and details about an upgrade to the Queenscliff pier.

We've also got news that Sail Melbourne has secured the Oceanic leg of the International Sailing World Cup for the next four years, reaffirming Melbourne’s position as the ‘sporting capital of the world’.

That's just a small sample of what's making news on the marine front, lots more below so sit back and enjoy the read.

Cheers, see you out on the water
