Shipmate News 01 April 2012

The news is all good

Things are gearing up for the upcoming Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show with news about the show coming in thick and fast. With the amount and nature of the news coming through it looks like the show is set to be a winner with something for everyone.

The interesting thing generally though is that the mood everywhere seems all positive with boat dealers reporting good sales enquiry and a report from Maritimo that for the first time in a while they're seeing a return to the situation where a prospective buyer is sitting down and going through a check list virtually customizing a vessel and then getting a bottom line price. Ormonde Britton from Maritimo said,  “This is a really positive sign and makes for a change from the last few years where it has been all about price and getting  a boat at a certain figure rather than looking at exactly what the boat comprises.”

All of the above coming hot on the heels of the news that Riviera is back in private hands and doing good things in terms of sales, all bodes well for the marine industry heading into the boat show season proper.

In other news, Transport Safety Victoria is urging us all to take care out on the water over Easter and news from the Marina Industries Association of Australia about a comprehensive research report into Australian marinas that found that marinas provide very significant public and community benefit. Isn't that what we've all been trying to tell our politicians for ages?

No doubt as you are probably all aware by now, the Shipmate iPhone app is available free from the App store and feedback tells us that we got it right. Thanks to all of those who've called or emailed, it's great to get any feedback and when it's positive it's even better. We've now embarked on providing Shipmate Marine Directory for Android smart phones so we'll keep you posted on progress.

In the interim, don't forget that you can still access Shipmate Marine Directory on line at where you'll find all those things you need to make your boating a bit more enjoyable.

Cheers, see you out on the water
