Time flies when you’re having fun

My how the time flies, it seems such a short while ago that we were preparing for the 2011 Variety Splash and here we are again with just over a week to go before the start of the 2012 event.

The Variety Splash, a three day cruise in company around Port Phillip Bay is one of those things that’s so much fun to be involved in while at the same time gives something back to the community. In this case, to children with special needs.

20 boats are set to take part in this year’s event, both power and sail. Starting off from Sandringham with overnight stops at Geelong and Queenscliff before finishing at Williamstown. In the process, if past events are anything to go by, there’ll be plenty of laughter, fun and entertainment and by the end of the event we will have raised over $100,000 in aid of Variety, the children’s charity. More details below or visit www.varietysplash.org.au

And now to the news; As always, a good mix from around Australia with something for everyone, including details about the upcoming Wooden Boat Show at Geelong and a warning to boaters at the southern end of Port Philip to look out for the new navigation marks denoting the new boating and swimming zones.

Just a reminder too that the 2012 edition of Shipmate Marine Directory, the free, 136 page pocket wonder incorporating a complete A – Z of marine trades and services, contact details for yacht clubs and marinas, safety information, tide tables and much more is out now!

This year, as well as being available free from yacht clubs, marinas, marine organizations and selected marine businesses, Shipmate Marine Directory will also be distributed in Victoria free with Australia’s biggest selling boating magazine, Tradeaboat (issue 424 on sale 29 February). Make sure you pick up a copy and get two great boating publications for the price of one.

And a reminder too, to make sure you visit our website at www.shipmate.com.au where you’ll find everything you need to keep your pride and joy in tip top condition and, if you’ve got an iPhone, download our iphone app, available free from the app store.

Cheers, see you out on the water
