Shipmate News 01 February 2012

Lots of news, information and free stuff too!

It’s great to be back on deck with the first Shipmate News for 2012. I wish you all a slightly belated happy new year and hope you had an opportunity to have a break and a chance to recharge the batteries.

I know I did, we spent a bit of time at Port Stephens (NSW) pottering around the beautiful waterways, boating, swimming, walking along secluded beaches, a trip up the Myall River to the Myall Lakes for a few days, generally relaxing and just chilling out. Then when we got back we joined around 350 other boats at the Festival of Sails in Geelong (VIC), the largest keelboat regatta in the southern hemisphere, for a few days and what a sensational few days that was. And now, it’s back to work… Well, that is if you can really describe what I do as work!

In this (slightly oversize) edition, a mix of interesting boating news and information including details of the Melbourne Summer Boat Show, which kicks off this Friday (03 Feb) at Melbourne’s iconic Docklands. We’ve got details of exciting new releases from Buizen, Maritimo, Princess, Chaparral and Chris-Craft and news that Superyacht Australia is merging with AIMEX the peak body for Australian marine exporters. We have details of three separate dramatic rescues off the coasts of Queensland and NSW and plenty of other interesting stuff.

The really big news though is that distribution of the 2012 edition of Shipmate Marine Directory - The Victorian Boaters Essential Guide, is now complete. This 136 page pocket wonder is now available free to boaters from yacht clubs, marinas, marine organisations and selected marine businesses. Inside you’ll find a complete list of marine trades and services, contact details for yacht clubs and marinas, a handy Docklands guide, safety information, tide tables and more.

Too busy to pick up a copy? Don’t despair. This year we’ve teamed up with Australia’s biggest selling boating magazine, Tradeaboat. A copy of Shipmate Marine Directory will go out free with every Tradeaboat magazine, issue 424, (on sale 28 February) sold in Victoria. So, make sure you pick up a copy of Tradeaboat from your local newsagent and get two great boating publications for the price of one!

Oh, and don’t forget our iPhone App, it’s available free from the App store and, if all else fails then of course you can always log on to our website at naturally that’s free too!

Cheers, see you out on the water
