Shipmate News 15 October 2011

We’ve released our free iphone app

I am so pleased to announce that our much anticipated iphone app is now ready and available free from the iphone app store. Now you can have all the boating information you need in a handy pocket book, on the web, or on your iphone.

Detailed listings of marine trades and services are available by category, along information on yacht clubs, marinas, marine organisations and much more. The app allows you to connect connect automatically to a phone number or a website by simply touching the iphone screen. We are also now listing marine businesses Australia wide with the facility to filter by state, but bear with us on that one as we slowly populate the site with interstate marine businesses.

The iphone app includes direct, single touch links to BOM weather, tide predictions, wind and waves and synoptic charts and a Shipmate News section will provide up to date marine news in your pocket.

While we’ve been getting the iphone app ready we’ve also been busy preparing the eighth annual edition of Shipmate Marine Directory, the 136 page pocket wonder. The 2012 edition is due for release in November with distribution to be completed by mid December.

And, as if that wasn’t enough, we’ve also been doing lots of work behind the scenes on the web site at and we’ll shortly be making announcements on the improvements which will provide even more information for boaters as well as making the site easier to navigate. Stay tuned for more on that soon.

While all this has been going I’ve pleased to say that I’ve still been able to fit in some boating of my own and, as I write this I’m sitting in Ulladulla Harbour on the NSW south coast. I’m on board an Island Gypsy 32 (an oldie, but a goodie) on a delivery run back to Melbourne and we’ve stopped here waiting for a weather break so as we can continue on the next leg of our journey home. You’ve gotta love modern technology!

That’s about it from me so sit back and enjoy the read but before you do, if you’ve got an iphone download the free Shipmate app now!

Cheers, see you put on the water
