Shipmate News 01 October 2011

It’s mostly good news

While boating generally continues all year around, October marks the official start of the boat show season. Clubs throughout the state are holding their official opening days, some with more pomp and ceremony than others.

And, as the clubs celebrate the start of another boat show season, the recreational fishers, here in the south, are looking forward to the start of another bumper snapper season as the red tide starts to flow into Port Phillip and Western Port to spawn. As if that wasn’t enough, the weather is on the improve, and, there’s plenty of other positive news about.

In this edition we’ve got an update on the Frankston Safe Harbour project. While it’s not exactly moving forward at record pace, at least it’s still on the agenda and we’ve got the latest update below.

Also, rather than just sit around doing nothing, the good folk down Chelsea Heights way are holding their own boat and marine equipment show with a few local businesses getting together to present a mini boat and equipment show where boaters can pick up a few bargains.

We’ve also got news that the world’s best Olympic sailors are heading downunder for the ISAF Sailing World Cup, to be held at Sandringham Yacht Club in November and, on the international front, we have reports from our Aussie marine exporters who exhibited at the recent Auckland Boat Show, that are sounding really positive.

Closer to home, we are in the final stages of preparing the next edition of Shipmate Marine Directory (the booklet) and we can’t wait to get it out, which should be some time in November. This year we’re really excited about how it’s come up and we’ve incorporated a bit of technology that makes it even easier to use.

That’s not all either, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes and very soon we’ll be making some other announcements as to improvements we’ve made to Shipmate that we think will be of benefit to boaters. Watch this space! In the interim, enjoy the read.

Cheers, see you out on the water
